I purchased the fabric from Warehouse Fabrics Inc. and went with Traditions Chocolate/Natural. I purchased 2 yards (with free shipping) which came to just a tad over $10.
I followed Censational Girl's Valance Tutorial
Great tutorial! Easy and cheap as can be :) (again, no sewing needed. Just Stitch Witchery and a Staple Gun)
I was making 2 valances in a corner window, it was a little more trickier. I found that I needed to match my pattern or it would look wierd. I layed my first cut valance right on top of the fabric to make my second cut so it would be exactly identical.
Before stapling my fabric to the wood pieces I layed them side by side to make sure they were perfectly matching.
Hubby hung them... he HATED this part. He couldn't step on our new granite counters so he had to balance on the window sill. Ya, he said he will never do that again (I hear that alot lately :) )
Here they are all hung and pretty. I love how they turned out! You can't beat $10!!
Here is a sneak peak at the new backsplash that is going up! I am so excited. I opted against the tumbled travertine (I actually had bought it and had to return it the day before my husband was going to install it) and decided to go with this dark Porcelain tile, subway style. It is really going to make a statement and add that contemporary flair to my kitchen. Hopefully next week I can FINALLY show you all my finished kitchen!!! Crossed fingers!!!!!!!!!!!
I love your valance! Your kitchen is looking great! I can not wait to see it when its all finished.

I love it! And I love that fabric!!
ReplyDeleteI just found that hem tape and fell in love. The valences look fab. I laughed at Hubs balancing...we've all been in that sort of position to make ours homes look great.
ReplyDeletethey look so good! And I love the subway tiles...that color is perfect!
ReplyDeleteLooks amazing! I love the fabric with your paint color! Found you through Be Different Act Normal. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLooooooooooving the tile! You cannot go wrong with subway tile...ever. Valance is beautiful too! Waiting on pins and needles here!
ReplyDeleteAhh! I love it! You truly inspire me to make my start home into a dream home like your doing! Keep up the awesome posts!
ReplyDeleteok dumb question. you stapled the fabric to wood and hung the wood? i'm only part crafty but these look so great i want to try them. but i want to make sure i'm understanding how they were hung.
ReplyDeleteGreat valance! Thanks, I'm repinning for future reference, thanks for showing tutorial!
ReplyDeleteHow did you build the valance?
ReplyDeleteIs there wood behind the whole piece of fabric? It all looks so great!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely fantastic!! Great job
ReplyDeleteI have the exact same layout of cabinets and corner sink in my kitchen. Now I know EXACTLY how I am going to redo the kitchen. And yes I love the valance. Thanks
ReplyDeleteWhere can I see more of your kitchen? It looks like the same layout as mine.
ReplyDeleteNice valance! I really also like the tile and have been looking for something similar. Where did you get it?
ReplyDeleteHow tall is valance from top to bottom?
ReplyDeleteHi, I also love your kitchen. Please let me know how you hung them??
ReplyDeleteCan you tell me what color you have on your walls in your kitchen (behind the valance)? It contrasts great with your cabinets and the valance and I think would look great in my kitchen as well. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am getting ready to do this project this weekend and I am very nervous/excited because I don't want to mess anything up. I am doing the same pattern as above because I too LOVE the damask pattern. The main question I have is do you have a lining behind your fabric, because I bought the fabric tonight from JoAnn Fabric and Craft store and it is just plain old fabric... In the tutorial the fabric looks so much thicker then what I have and I just want to make sure I am doing the right thing. Any help or suggestions will greatly help! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteCan you write a little more details on how they were hung? I am super confused? L brackets? How big was the wood?
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you didn't make your sag like the tutorial, I like yours better.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I like yours better! I'm trying this this weekend. My husband is going to be so excited!!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog here! Also your site loads up very fast!

ReplyDeleteI love the look! I have been making my own valances for years - all shapes and sizes but I DO NOT USE WOOD - I use FOAM BOARD from Lowes, duct tape, batting, T-pins, and material. WAh-LAH! No balancing and complaining husband : )

ReplyDeleteI love the fabric as well! I'd like to suggest using tablecloths for the valance so you can match the table if you're into matching. When we moved into our brand new house, I cut up the box from the refrigerator to make my valances and used wide masking tape to attach the fabric. Nobody sees the back side so why not? They were nice and sturdy and free!
