Now lets pick up where we left off:
Step #5: Screwing the Head board into the bed frame.
#1. Have your bolts, washers and nuts purchased and ready (make sure they fit through the bed frame notches... ours just barely fit)
#2. Measure first, then drill 2 holes into the 4x4.
#3. Bolt your frame to your 4x4.
Voila! You have your solid wood, under $100, homemade head board that looks like a million bucks! Can you tell it was made out of a door? I can't!
Without the bed made so you can see the FULL head board and the hole where the door nob was, hidden beneath our mattress.
(the finish is really even, for some reason this pic makes it look splotchy)

I used Rustoleum Black, semi gloss, spray paint for the head board (3 coats) and also primed and sprayed my side tables to match.
I added a nice feminine knob to tie in my beautiful lamps.
If you noticed, I did repaint my walls. The blue was just a little much in such a BIG room. I picked Nantucket Dune from Sherwin Williams and I love it! Going neutral on the walls gives me a chance to add pattern and color through fabrics and art.
Now onto the rest of my bedroom makeover......

WOW........looks fantastic. You cannot tell it was a door! And the good thing, if the finish gets scratches or dings, it will look good distressed.
ReplyDeleteNo...you can't tell it was a door...you did an outstanding job on this project! HAPPY V DAY to you:)
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Linda
Gorgeous! I love the black against the wall color, and the picture is beautiful! Will you come decorate my house?? lol
ReplyDeleteLooks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI look forward to your posts even when they are not as frequent, because the project is always incredible! ...quality vs. quantity :)
Your new headboard looks FANTASTIC!!! I am planning on painting a headboard soon and was wondering about spray paint. Is there any spray paint smell, in your room or does it settle away after a few days? Have a great Valentines day!
ReplyDeleteI love the new headboard. It looks fantastic. I also love your bedding. Would you mind sharing where you bought it?
ReplyDeleteTreasia- I got the bedding at Bed Bath and Beyond on clearance. It may still be there. It was a bed in a bag. a WAY good deal! I saw the same bedding on Costco.com for $800! I got mine for $200.
ReplyDeleteTara- We left the headboard out in the garage for a couple days to dry, but it did smell like paint in our room for a couple days, plus I painted all the walls. No big deal, it is going away as of now. I only lost a couple brain cells in the process :)
I absolutely love it. It's the perfect size, color, shape -- just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful!! I love this.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job! So pretty! Please tell me where you got that beautiful artwork above your bed!
ReplyDeleteI love this idea. The black paint looks great! Love your lamps too BTW!

Hi- I was just wondering where you got the knobs for your nightstands? All the ones I seem to find have a brass screw rather than a silver one :( Thanks!!
