After almost a month of hard work- sanding, constructing, painting, Graniting (is that a word?)- the island is FINISHED!!!
Lets blast into the past and take a look at what it WAS:

| I changed out the pulls for some sleek sexy ones (Lowes) |

| We also changed out the island supports for nice pretty ones. I think these add so much. |

| Oh, I can't forget the AMAZING fruit bowl I picked up at Home Goods! LOVE IT!!! |
Oh, and our whole kitchen is SOooo CLOSE to being done, except I changed my decision on the Backsplash (I know I am SO indecisive). I am going a completely opposite direction and I am SO excited how it will pull together my style and give our kitchen a more modern edgy look! I can't wait to show you all!!!! YipEE!!!

I LOVE it! The granite looks amazing with the white paint. I cannot wait to see the full kitchen!! Everything looks light, bright & inviting! The fruit bowl makes a nice centerpiece. Two thumbs up!

ReplyDeleteFab before and afters pics! The island looks SO MUCH BETTER! I painted all my kitchen cabinets white, put glass in some of the doors and built an island, so I know from experience how much work it takes to do these these makeovers. ReplyDeleteI painted my 80's oak cabinets in Ben's Natural Wicker and just tore out some very dated birch moulding and ceiling beams and all of the backsplash tile...ugh! Alot of work!
Anyway, I LOVE the granite you chose...can you give me the name...I'd really appreciate it! Can't wait to see the rest!

Peggy, the granite is Gialla Santa Cecilia. We used "mini-slabs" for our counters which are 18x26" tiles, they are amazing! That saved us thousands of dollars. I will post more on that subject later.

ReplyDeleteOh! I've never heard of granite mini slabs! Wow...how think are they...they look to be about an inch but it's hard to tell...what a great $$ saver...I can use all the $$ saving I can get...my husband would be SO happy haha!

ReplyDeleteThis may seem like a strange question, but how did you finish the underside of the island overhang? My mom has this raised eating area on her island and the builder left it raw (plywood) underneath. When we sit in a low seat nearby, we can see all the unfinished bits. Any suggestions?
