Decorating with your husband's taste in mind

If my sweet husband didn't have an opinion, our home would look a lot different. It would have a lot more feminine qualities. Less leather (well, ok, that is for the kids), less dark and more white, cream, silver and blues. But, as most of you know, the reality is that my husband has to live here too. More than that though, I want him to feel like it is his home, not just my design project :)

In my master bedroom, I painted my headboard dark instead of the creamy white my heart desired, and have bedding that adding some masculine qualities. He did hound me for the crystal knob (I thought I snuck that in pretty well).

If it were only my choice my bedroom would look more like:

Design by Candice Olson

If I (and only I) were to design my kitchen I would add some printed wallpaper, or heck, even paint with purple paint!!!

And yes, I would be able to float in mid air so gracefully with wallpaper in my home, it adds that much energy!!

My family room would be less casual/functional and more glitzy-girly:

Design by Candice Olson (notice a trend... Love her!)

My Office/Den would go glam like Censational Girl's:

My husband wouldn't set foot in this office which would mean the bills would be up to me.... That aside, You gotta check out her site. She is CRAZY amazing! Every detail is accounted for.... does she actually have kids? All the accessorizing would never fly in my home ....wait, yes it would, it would fly through the air and crash on the floor only to be destroyed.

Oh yes, if the world were just mine I would do so many creamy, yummy, soft printed, sparkly and bold color choices. But it is not. Which is fine by me. I would rather have a happy husband and a home made for my 3 wild kids :)

  2. Hello there,
I have a husband that says he doesn't care what I do with anything and doesn't give much of an opinion. But if we go out together to look at things I can kind of get a feel, because he says I don't like that or you have to be kidding..lol anyway it is so nice how sensitive you are to making him feel comfortable...I'm enjoying your blog and have one question..The sage gray color u used I'm thinking of doing in my dining room.. does it or does it not have blueish look to it?? Thanks Jolyn

  3. Jolyn, yes, it is blue. I would explain the sage gray: blue with gray mixed into it then a touch of green, and I mean a small little touch. Basically, much more blue than gray. I love it though! Good luck :)

  4. My dear husband never expressed an interest until about 2 years ago, then it was....you know I never liked that color. I never liked this or that. So we are making more decisions together this time around.

  6. my husband used to care...too much, but now (after 14 years) I think he finally trusts me, and knows I'm not going to "foo-foo" him out of the house. Now he just stands back and lets me spread my wings...
btw, I LOVE the door headboard, and you do some pretty great stuff!

  7. I'm with you all the way. My home would be MUCH more girly without my husband, but I would MUCH rather have my husband than a girly home. :-) love your choices though - Candice is one of my favs too!

  8. New starts, new homes lead us to a big decision. How to create a dream home? If you live alone and you are not especially demanding about design, it’s easy to satisfy you. A lot of people want to have big houses, so they can find a place just for them there, or they try to create one room in their specific style. But most of the time you have to cooperate and to create a shared home. Everything is about good ideas and Know-how, how to combine the specific interior possibilities and your abilities. Your blog is full of interesting observations and inspiring ideas for successful dream home creating.

    Best regards,
    Elli
